Meet our DFTA

Last Updated: 29/08/2012

               Our Defence Force Transition Aide

Waikiki Primary School has a large proportion of students from Defence Force families, primarily those based at HMAS Stirling in the Royal Australian Navy.

We are very lucky to have our Defence Force Transition Aide (DFTA), Mrs Joan Crozier (pictured left) employed at our school through the assistance of the Department of Defence.      One of the fantastic programs that Mrs Crozier runs is the recess Art program that allows students to express themselves creatively and talk about school and the other things that they might have in common.  She is always on hand to welcome new families into our school community, and also there to wish them farewell when it is time to move on.

Among many things that  Mrs Crozier does, her role is to:

  • support children of Defence Force families in transition to and from our school, and in times of parental deployment
  • provide a point of contact for parents and family members at the school
  • liaise with families about any issue that may arise
  • provide academic and social support for students
  • liaise with Defence Forces and Associations
  • Provide advice to the school on matters concerning Defence personnel and ceremonies such as ANZAC Day.

If you are a family with employment within the Defence Forces and have students attending our school, or are prospectively moving into our area, please feel free to contact Joan.  She is at Waikiki Primary all day on Mondays and Wednesdays as well as Tuesday and Thursday mornings.
